It is with immense joy and deep satisfaction that the Silvio Carta Winery and Distillery announces a historic achievement:
the Vernaccia di Oristano DOC 2002 has been awarded the prestigious The WineHunter Platinum Award, the highest recognition bestowed by The WineHunter.
This accolade celebrates absolute excellence — a wine distinguished by its unparalleled quality, authenticity, and character.
The Platinum Award stands as a tribute to the passion, research, and vision that drive the company, deeply rooted in the heart of the Sinis peninsula, guardian and ambassador of the centuries-old tradition of Vernaccia di Oristano.
The 2002 Riserva perfectly embodies the unique terroir of the Lower Tirso Valley and the ancient art of aging in Sardinian chestnut barrels — a process that enhances its ethereal complexity and its signature note of bitter almond.
“This Platinum Award for our Vernaccia 2002 is more than a prize; it is the consecration of over seventy years of dedication to our native grape and to our land,”
says Elio Carta, Owner and Master Distiller of Silvio Carta.
“It is a tribute to the roots that keep us anchored to the Sinis and that we proudly bring to the world. Vernaccia is our liquid history, and seeing it on the highest podium in Merano fills us with emotion.”
The official award ceremony for The WineHunter Platinum Award took place on Friday, November 7th at 5:00 PM at the Teatro Puccini in Merano, during the Merano WineFestival 2025 — an exclusive celebration dedicated to the finest interpreters of the world of wine and taste.
